Many people who are considering installing a home alarm system ask the question of “are wireless home alarm systems better?” and the answer is “it depends”.
While wireless home alarm systems are newer and are becoming more popular than wired home alarm systems, there are still situations where either one could make the most sense in a situation. Wireless home alarm systems are not “better” or “worse” than wired home alarm systems – it is probably better to think of them as just being two different options when it comes to home alarm systems and not “better” or “worse”.
Some of the benefits of having a wireless home alarm system include:
- No drilling
- Equally as reliable as “wired” home alarms
- Long battery life – typically 5-7 years
- Looks almost identical to a “wired” home alarm
- Easier to install if home is not pre-wired for an alarm system
One of the major downsides to a wireless home alarm system is cost. A wireless home alarm system costs about 5-10 times as much as a “wired” one. The biggest reason that people choose a wireless system over a wired one is that if a home is not already pre-wired. If a home is pre-wired, go with wired. If a home is not pre-wired, then go with a wireless home alarm system, it will probably save you both time and money.
