Can You Be Fined For False Alarms?

Is it possible that you could be fined for having too many false alarms? In some states, yes – you can be fined for excessive false alarms. For example, if your Pennsylvania home alarm system goes off and it is a false alarm more than 4 times a year, you could be fined according to Gettysburg Pennsylvania state police.

This is why it is a good idea to be careful when setting your home alarm system and here are just a few tips to help avoid a false alarm:

  • Work with your home alarm company if your alarm is overly sensitive, and for other technical issues.
  • In the event that you accidentally trip the alarm, call the alarm company to cancel police response.
  • Make sure everyone who could accidentally trip the alarm is aware of security codes so they can cancel it after an accidental activation.

Regardless of fines and whether or not a fine will happen, it is always a good idea to be in control of your home alarm system so that you know you are protected. The last thing you would want is for someone to think “oh, here goes another false alarm” when you are really in need of help.
