Low Cost B&W Wireless Security Camera - Recommended w\Caveats

Review Date: February 3, 2010
Reviewer: CFH, Blue Ridge Summit, PA USA
The Smith & Wesson "Black & White Wireless Security Camera" is a very inexpensive system that actually works much better than I expected. This is not a high-end system, nor is it priced it like one, so the features it provides are being reviewed in that context. Here are my observations:

Pros -
+ Attractive Design, important since we have this installed in our shop so we can see the sales floor while working in the back
+ Good Range, we have this working out to 110' or so (they might work farther, but we didn't have any need to try)
+ Inexpensive, this was the cheapest solution we tried and it likely saved us a lot of money

Cons -
- Subjectable to RF Interference, we had to change the default channel to get a clear (mostly) picture
- Audio can have static, we keep the audio turned to a low volume
- Camera does not handle high contrast well, brights tend to wash out

Caveats -
* This is a Black and White camera
* This does not come with a monitor, you must connect it to a monitor or video recorder that takes composite video and audio (cables included)
* Camera needs AC power (adapter included)
* This is not Internet ready

So, with the caveats listed above, this is a great value for a very basic wireless security camera system. I am pleased that we didn't have to spend a lot more to get marginally better results!

NOT BAD

Not going to go into specifics because the other review takes care of that. But I will say that it is not bad for the price. It is not so great for outdoors but def serves as a great baby monitor The picutre tends to go out a lot if the camera is moved but it is adjustable. If you are looking for a cheap alternative to expensive baby monitors then this is the way to go but for real security I do not recommend it.
