If you look around a little bit, it won’t take too long to find a home alarm system company that is offering a “free” home alarm system. If a company is offering a free home alarm system, is the deal too good to be true?
Maybe, maybe not.
As long as you know what is really going on, getting a “free” home alarm system can be a good deal. Typically, home alarm systems cost between $250 and $1000 and as a way to attract new customers, some companies will give the hardware of the home alarm system to a customer for free.
But don’t be duped into thinking that just because a company will give you the hardware doesn’t mean they aren’t making it up somewhere else. Be sure to ask them about cancellation fees, installation costs, and any other money you’ll have to pay to get your home alarm up and running. Also, be sure that you get a copy of their contract in advance so you aren’t forced to review it when the salesperson is waiting on you.
If a company is giving away free home alarm systems, it isn’t necessarily a bad deal – just one that you need to go into with open eyes. The reason that companies are able to offer these is that they know if they can get you to go with them for the installation, chances are that they can get you for the monitoring as well and that you will stay many years with them and pay the monthly monitoring fees.
If you take the time to do your research, you can easily compare your total costs from each company – free offer or not and come up with the right deal for you!
